The playback system has a turntable for a video disc, rotating at a preset and constant angular velocity. The video disc signal for generation of a video output signal with a vertical synchronous component is obtained by a transducer head. A control blocks the video output signal during an operational mode of the playback, but cuts in the signal during a second operational mode. The control is formed by a signal processor. A frequency multiplier transmits a signal, indicating the turntable velocity, with a frequency related to the constant angular velocity.
