PURPOSE:To form a shaped end surface gradually becoming thinner toward an unpainted surface simultaneously with painting, by applying masking to the unpainted surface at the boundary part of a surface to be painted and the unpainted surface so as to provide a required gap to perform painting. CONSTITUTION:The unpainted part of a steel material D being a material to be painted is covered with a masking tap 1, for example, through a rubber sheet 2 so as to provide a required gap (l). When paint such as polyurethane paint is applied to the steel material D from above by a spray means, a paint film 3 is formed to a surface to be painted not masked and a part of the paint penetrated into a part of the masked part from the gap (l) to form a paint film having a shaped end surface. Therefore, the paint film having the shaped end surface improved in appearance is obtained simultaneously with painting without using a filler or a cutting tool. Further, the gap (l) is set to a range of 5-15mm and the protrusion quantity of the tape from the rubber sheet 2 becomes about 5-15mm.
