PURPOSE:To join a plurality of plastic members with strength higher than a certain value at all times by a method wherein a plurality of the plastic members are piled up and pinched between a pair of dies and a pair of punches so as to soften and turn the plastic members in fluid state by repeatedly deforming the latter pair under vibrating state and to push a joining member, on the outer periphery or inner side surface of which engaging parts are provided, in the plastic members under fluid state. CONSTITUTION:Plastic members 6 to be joined under piled-up state are seated onto a lower die 2. A metal pin 5, which acts as a joining member and on the outer peripheral surface of which recessed engaging parts 9 are provided, is brought into contact with the plastic members 6 to be joined under the state being guided with an upper die 1 and an upper punch 3. By repeatedly deforming the plastic members 6 through the synchronous axial vibrations of the upper punch 3 and of the lower punch 4, which are developed by the actuation of a servo cylinder supported on a main body, heat is generated in the deformed region of the plastic members, to which vibration is applied. When the plastic members in their deformed region contacting the pin 5 become fully softened, the pin is pushed in the members by lowering the upper punch 3. When the pin is pushed in, the plastic displaced by the pin flows in a cavity 7 and at the same time fills the engaging parts 7 of the pin 5. The joining of a plurality of the plastic members is completed by the imbedded pin 5. |
