The invention relates to a so-called mechanical digital store having a block-like housing with a plurality of spatially distributed positions arranged on its outer surface, at which positions there are respectively bodies which, by different spatial positioning, make digital signals susceptible to enquiry by sensors, it being possible to generate at least two signals by spatially changing a body in that the body assumes two positions in an alternative manner. The bodies (signal generators), which are like reciprocating pistons, can in each case be locked individually and independently in two positions of their longitudinal axis by there being guided in grooves for each body beam-like elements, guided with slight play such that they can swivel in such a way that they bear on the base of the groove under spring force (tension or compression spring). The invention produces greater functional reliability and allows structural adaptation for different needs.
