PURPOSE:To improve the color reproducibility, and to stabilize an output image by providing a control means for comparing a gradation density data detected by a detecting means, and a density pattern image data in a storage means, and controlling an image forming means to that both data coincide. CONSTITUTION:A gradation density data 202A and an image data 401A are compared. In this case, when the conversion data of an image processing part 402 is correct, it becomes a linear relation, but as a matter of fact, it does not become a linear relation due to an environmental variation, etc. but becomes a curve, and the gradation expression is not reproduced satisfactorily. Therefore, the conversion data in a RAM 403 is corrected so as to become the linear relation. After this adjustment is ended, a transfer drum cleaner is driven, and the surface of a transfer drum adsorbing sheet is cleaned, and prepared for a usual copying mode. In such a way, this device can cope with the variation of the environment for opening the device, for instance, the variation of temperature and humidity, the color reproducibility is improved, and even in case of a continuous operation, a stable output image is obtained.
