PURPOSE:To obtain an ingot having a good shape without having cracks, flaws, flashes, etc. by cooling a molten metal while forming said metal without contact by electromagnetic force. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnets 6, 7 which form powerful magnetic fields of the magnetic lines of force penetrating molten metal flow 4 are provided to the lower part of a tundish 5. Cooling nozzles 8 which cool the molten metal flow 4 by blowing an inert gas thereto are provided to the upper part of the electromagnets 6, 7 and a secondary cooler 10 which cools the ingot 9 formed in the lower part of the electromagnets 6, 7 is provided. The entire part of the respective devices is enclosed by a hermetic chamber 12 to form an inert atmosphere and the gas in the chamber 12 is circulated and supplied through a heat exchanger 13 and fan 14 provided on the outside to the cooling nozzles 8, by which a primary cooler 15 is constituted. The molten metal 2 flows down from a nozzle 3 in the form of the molten metal flow 4 and is formed into a sheet by receiving the effect of the electromagnetic force between the electromagnets 6 and 7. The sheet is cooled and solidified by the cooling gas blown from the nozzles 8 and is taken out as a sheet ingot 9. |
