An uncomplicated optical multiplexer/demultiplexer comprises a collimator (K) which is in the form of a spherical segment and has two cut faces (F1, F2), forming an angle (0@ < gamma < 180@). These cut faces (F1, F2) are positioned such that each beam (SO) directed at the centre point (PO) of the sphere from which the segment (K) is cut out passes completely through one of the two cut faces (F1, F2) and that each beam emerging from one of the two cut faces (F1, F2) impinges completely on the other cut face (Figure). <IMAGE>
