PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a rotary compressor, by bearing upper and lower bearings associated with a rotor onto a fixed shaft associated with a piston section and arranging a motor on the outer circumference of the rotor. CONSTITUTION:A shaft 1 associated with a piston section 2 is secured at an intermediate position in the central portion of housing 18, and a suction port 3 communicated with the outer circumferential face of the piston section 2 is formed in said shaft 1. Upper and lower bearings 12, 14 are born rotatably at the opposite sides of the axis of the shaft 1 at the piston section 2, and a rotor 8 surrounding the piston section 2 is secured to the upper and lower bearings 12, 14. A permanent magnet 16 provided on the lower bearing 14 and a drive coil 17 facing axially with the permanent magnet 16 and secured to the housing 18 are arranged on the outer circumference of the rotor 8. Consequently, a compressor mechanism section comprising the rotor 8, the piston section 2 and the upper/lower bearings 12, 14 can be arranged in the motor comprising the permanent magnet 16 and the drive coil 17 thereby the size can be reduced in the axial direction.
