PURPOSE:To discriminate a discharge state in accurate distinction when discharge is not produced there even voltage is impressed on a spark gap as well as to make servo control over the gap, etc., performable in optimum conditions, by detecting the voltage or an electric current in the spark gap and a signal proportionate to discharge pressure, and controlling a servo or the like in logical discrimination between both signals. CONSTITUTION:A signal proportionate to voltage or an electric current in a discharging gap and a signal proportionate to discharge pressure both are detected, and both signals are logically discriminated, a machining state is discriminated and detected, and a servo unit for a spark gap, a reciprocating motion controller, a pulse discharge power source 6, a dielectric fluid feeder and a shifting travel controller for a wire electrode 1, etc., are all controlled. And, these discharge states as in case no discharge is generated even voltage is impressed on the gap, in case of normal voltage at discharge and arc discharge, in case of a short and a reshort, etc., can be discriminated upon distinction. Especially, a process, a trend, etc., shifting from normal discharge to defective discharge, or the inverse are accurately detectable, thus servo control over the gap, etc., is performable in optimum conditions.
