Depending on the composition of the sand/binder system, foundry sands require different regeneration conditions. It is therefore necessary, in the thermal regeneration of sand/binder systems having varying compositions, either to use a number of furnaces in combination or, after a batch of a specific sand/binder system, the furnace has to be cleaned extensively if then a different sand is to be treated. In order to improve the economics of thermal reprocessing of used sand (old sand), a fluidised-bed furnace is therefore proposed, whose reaction chamber is divided, by one or more partitions, into two or more reaction zones for parallel reprocessing of different sand/binder systems.
