PURPOSE:To communicate information with media which can be treated by respective terminal in various forms of terminals by detecting the input media of the information which is going to be communicated and the media with which the opposite terminal of communication can process and selecting the form of the conversion of media according to the detected results. CONSTITUTION:A self-station media identification part D detects the input media of the information which should be communicated and at the same time an opposite station media identification part E detects the media with which the opposite terminal of communication can process to obtain the communication media for communicating the information. Under the control of a media selection control part F, the kind of the conversion of media which is necessary to communicate the input information to the opposite terminal of communication is obtained by referring to a media conversion table G based on the input media and the communication media, and media conversion means A is selectively started to transmit the input information to the opposite terminal of communication after the conversion of media according to the kind of the conversion of media. Thus the information which should be communicated can be communicated by converting to the media according to the kind of media with which the opposite terminal of communication can process.
