A process is described for removing acidic gases, such as SO2, SO3, H2S, CO2 and/or COS, from hot gas mixtures. In this case, the gas mixture is cooled by heat exchangers and then, for absorption of the acid gases, is fed to scrubbing with a solvent. After the acid gases have been absorbed, the solvent is regenerated and returned to the scrubbing. In order to decouple the greatest possible amount of energy, it is proposed to cool the hot gas mixture to a temperature beneath the dew point and to use at least some of the energy released in this for regenerating the solvent. In this manner, the process according to the invention is independent of other energy sources and, moreover, further permits the generation of usable heat. <IMAGE>
