There is described a compressed rod-shaped tampon for female hygiene in which a cottonwool plait connected to a recovery thread is spirally wound and compressed to form a tampon together, where appropriate, with a nonwoven jacket. The recovery thread (6) is wound or folded together, except for a small gripping piece (9) inside the tampon or at least inside the tampon jacket (3), and the gripping piece (9) is led out of the tampon at its bottom.
