The safety device on agricultural machines which stops the supply of harvested material in the event of a metal or non-metal foreign objects uses a gear wheel (25) fitted with external lamellae (27) and set on a gear shaft (19) whereby the gear wheel is connected in force-locking engagement to the gear shaft by internal lamellae (29). A switch element (33) which impinges on the lamellae assembly is mounted for axial displacement on the gear shaft and supports on the other side a spur gear (34) which can be thrown into a spur gear (35) of a flange sleeve (36) which is fixedly connected to the gear housing.
