PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient maximum image density through short-time processing and to lower minimum image density by processing with a color developing solution containing hydroxylamine (salt) and sulfite each in a specified amount. CONSTITUTION:After the imagewise exposed photosensitive material has been subjected to fogging treatment with light or a nucleating agent, or while undergoing said treatment, it is developed with a surface developing solution containing an aromatic primary amine color developing agent and hydroxyamine (salt), such as hydroxyamine sulfate in an amount of <=1.0X10<-2>mol per 1l of the developing solution and sulfite, such as sodium sulfite, in an amount of <=1.0X10<-2>mol per 1l of the developing solution and substantially no benzyl alcohol, and bleach fixed to form a direct positive color image, thus permitting a positive color image sufficient in maximum image density and low in minimum image density to be obtained even by short-time processing, and yet a re-reversal negative image to be prevented. |
