An electrophotographic photosensitive member comprises a photosensitive layer containing an azo pigment selected from the following general formulae (1) to (5): <IMAGE> (1) <IMAGE> (2) <IMAGE> (3) <IMAGE> (4) <IMAGE> (5) wherein groups Ar are arylene groups and divalent heterocyclic groups, each of which may contain a substituent; n is 0 or 1; and group A is a coupler residue group having a phenolic OH group.
