The invention relates to a method and a device for rotary distribution. The distribution device comprises a so-called intake duct and so-called exhaust duct for discharge through a treatment chamber which may comprise a compression stage, comprising a distribution element 17 mounted rotationally in a body element 7 which comprises at least three non-aligned openings communicating with each other, in which one inlet opening 15 communicates freely with the intake duct, one intermediate opening 12 communicates freely with the said treatment chamber and one exhaust opening 16 communicates freely with the exhaust duct, the said distributor element 17 comprising a slot 18 which, as it rotates, gives access to the treatment chamber only to one single duct at a time, characterised in that it comprises means 22, 23, 24, 27 for controlling the discontinuous rotation of the distributor element. An improvement in the operation of the rotary distribution device is obtained, which device may be used for the distribution of internal combustion engines or piston-compressors, including pumps. <IMAGE>
