PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film type having excellent weatherability by forming a thin magnetic metallic film contg. much oxygen near the surface on a non-magnetic base and forming a Cr compd. layer having the film thickness of a specific value thereon. CONSTITUTION:A plastic film of polyethylene terephthalate, polyimide, or polycarbonate is preferably as a base, and a non-magnetic metal such as Al, Cu, SUS or the like or an iorg. material such as glass, ceramic or the like is also usable. The magnetic metallic material is a metal such as Fe, Co, Ni or the like and a ferromagnetic alloy consisting essentially of Fe-Co, Fe-Ni, etc., and particularly preferably Co or an alloy contg. 75wt% Co. The chromium compd. layer to be formed on the thin ferromagnetic metallic film layer is Cr, Cr-O or one or both thereof contg. impurities such as Fe, Ni and Si, and the film thickness is 10-120Angstrom . If the film thickness is larger than 120Angstrom , the electromagnetic conversion characteristic is deteriorated by the increase in the space loss and lubricity is deteriorated. |
