PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a printer without reducing the size of a cassette, by a method wherein when a carriage reaches a position proximate to a left or right printing limit position, only the carriage is moved to the printing limit position in the condition wherein a cassette is stopped by contact with a projection on the side of a cassette supporting frame. CONSTITUTION:When a thermal head 13 comes to a position B, the cassette 14 comes into contact with the projection 4b provided on the right side of the supporting frame 4. When a pulse motor 11 is further rotated, only the carriage 10 is pulled by a wire 9 in the condition wherein the cassette 14 is stopped. As a result, pawls 15, 16 provided at front and rear parts of the carriage 10 are moved in grooves provided in a lateral direction along front and rear parts of the cassette 14. The carriage 10 is moved to the right end position C of a recording paper 2, followed by printing, if required. Also at the time of returning the carriage 10, the left end of the cassette 14 is restricted in movement by making contact with the projection 4b of the supporting frame 4, and in a manner similar to the above, only the carriage 10 is moved to a position A which is a home position, and it is stopped. |
