发明名称 CONNECTING METHOD FOR WAVEGUIDE AND OPTICAL FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To strengthen the fixing strength of an optical fiber and a guide, and to attain a stable and good optical coupling by providing a guide in a waveguide substance on a production of a waveguide, installing the optical fiber to the guide, heating and melting a vitreous powder with which the peripheral part of an abutting part has been filled, and cooling and solidifying said powder. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 3 is fitted into a guide 40 in a state that its end part has abutted on the end part of a waveguide 20, so that the optical axis of the optical fiber 3 coincides with the center line of the waveguide 20. Subsequently, the periphery of the abutting part is filled with a vitreous powder 7. In the end, by scanning a CO2 laser 8 in the direction vertical to the axis of the optical fiber 3, the vitreous powder 7 is melted successively, by which the molten vitreous powder 7 is melted with the surface part of a waveguide substrate 10, the waveguide 20, and the optical fiber 3, which have been softened or melted, and said part is cooled successively to a room temperature from the part where a laser radiation has been ended. The molten part which has been cooled becomes a transparent vitreous part 7', and the optical fiber 3 and the waveguide 20 are connected firmly.
