In a device for suspending a lift drive mechanism 3 from the top part of a lift cage 11 in a lift of the type in which the drive mechanism comprises at least two drive wheels 4 spaced horizontally apart, which drive wheels are each arranged in engagement with a respective stationary, elongated, flexible element 5, such as a chain, extending essentially vertically in the lift shaft, the drive mechanism 3 is supported by a separate suspension frame 10 in which the lift cage 11 is at least somewhat movably, functionally single-point suspended essentially centrally between the said drive wheels 4 with the aid of first vibration-damping supporting members 30, the suspension frame 10 being arranged to bear against the lift cage with the aid of vibration- damping supporting members 31 on both sides of the suspension point, which are at least somewhat compliant, thereby allowing slanting of the suspension frame 10 in relation to the lift cage 11, and in addition sensor members 32 are provided, for example between the suspension frame 10 and the lift cage 11, designed to detect exaggerated oblique displacement of the suspension frame 10 and, in this event, to cut off the power supply to the drive mechanism 3. <IMAGE>
