PURPOSE:To device a relative displacement amount with finer accuracy than a sensor pitch, and to precisely execute focusing by providing not only a first and a second photosensor arrays but also a third photosensor array, and executing a suitable arithmetic operation by utilizing its output. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic processing unit 4 such as a microcomputer determines a relative displacement amount of two images, based on an output from A/D converters 3A, 3B, and executes a control of an image pickup lens thereby. In this state, with respect to each output value of two photosensor arrays which have been A/D-converted, if a suitable function f(x) for showing a degree of discrepancy of both of them is supposed, it is known that a shift amount (relative displacement) of two object images can be derived as an amount for minimizing this function f(x), therefore, in this case, with regard to the first and the second photosensor arrays, the relative displacement and the function value at that time are derived, and subsequently, with regard to the first and the third photosensor arrays, the relative displacement and the function value at that time are derived in the same way. |
