Fuel metering device for internal combustion engine, with external ignition source in which the effect of the distance between the air mass sensor and inlet valves, which particularly marked when the inlet manifold/cylinder capacity ratio is large, is compensated. This is effected by the fact that the air mass sensor (35) produces a signal which is received by a delay circuit (32) (phase shifter), retarding this signal as a function of the air mass. In the simplest case, such a device is achieved by means of a phase shifter having a low-pass characteristic.
