A combine harvester 11 provided with impact chopper 16 has a winnower 13 to separate the chaff from the grain, and the impact chopper is connected to the straw outlet 17 of the combined harvester, by means of which the chaff arriving from the winnowing arrangement and conveyed by a flow of air is delivered to the impact chopper 16. The object of the invention is to indicate an arrangement by means of which the chaff is dispersed over the entire working width of the combine harvester and is furthermore effectively mixed with the chopped up straw, so that a continuous and even distribution on the field is achieved. This is achieved in that the impact chopper 16 is also designed as a cross-flow fan, which is designed to generate a negative pressure at the inlet 21 of the impact chopper, and that the outlet of the winnower 13 is directed sloping upwards towards the area where the straw drops over the inlet 21 of the impact chopper, so that the chaff is mixed with the straw, before this reaches the impact chopper, in addition to which the air flow, which conveys the chaff to the inlet of the impact chopper, is designed so that in the area where the straw falls it has a pressure which only slightly exceeds atmospheric pressure. <IMAGE>
