The waste reception container is intended especially for paper and cigarette wastes and to be set up in rooms accessible to the public, such as exhibition halls, foyers and airport and station concourses, and consists of a tripod-like support and a lid in the shape of a flat funnel, provided with an insertion aperture and fire-preventing shaping, between which lid and the support a waste collection bag is releasably clamped by means of its opening edge. In order to prevent cigarette butts which are thrown in while still smouldering from being able to burn through the waste bag, there is arranged centrally in the insertion aperture (1) of the lid (2) an insertion shaft (3) of smaller cross-section, forming an annular gap (4) between the shaft (3) and an opening edge (6) of the lid which points into the interior (5) of the container. The insertion shaft (3), which is mounted to be axially movable and returnable relative to the lid (2), is provided with a stop shoulder (7) diverging into the interior (5) of the container which, in the closed position of the shaft (3), bears on the lower edge (8) of the opening edge (6). <IMAGE>
