1,4-Dihydropyrimidines of the formula <IMAGE> wherein X is sulfur or oxygen and R4 is aryl or heterocyclo and disclosed. These compounds are useful as cardiovacular agents, particularly anti-hypertensive agents, due to their vasodilator activity.
