The present invention relates to a femoral prosthesis intended to be housed in the diaphysial canal of a femur, which comprises an upper part consisting of a neck carrying a Morse cone capable of receiving a ball joint for the articulation of the prosthesis to the pelvis, a lower part consisting of a stem capable of being implanted in the metaphysis and the medullary canal of the femur. According to the invention, the prosthesis comprises, at the junction of the neck C and the stem Q, a notch E which is oblique and inclined downwards towards the inner edge BI of the prosthesis, this notch having the shape of a horseshoe which extends over the anterior face FA, the inner edge BI and the posterior face of the prosthesis, without affecting the outer edge BE of the prosthesis, and in that it comprises a removable collar of the same shape as the notch and capable of fitting round the notch, but with a thickness which is greater than the depth of the notch, and means for holding the collar in place in the notch. <IMAGE>
