PURPOSE:To obtain a novel polymer, containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative component linked to an alpha-olefinic polymer, having specific properties, capable of providing an oil-in-water type aqueous emulsion by blending with water without using any surfactant and useful as a resin modifying agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A polymer, obtained by linking an unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative component consisting of a 3-10C unsaturated carboxylic acid, acid anhydride and ester thereof, e.g. methyl acrylate, maleic anhydride, etc., to an alpha-olefinic polymer constituted of a 3-20C alpha-olefin, containing the above- mentioned unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative component in an amount of 0.2-50pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. aimed polymer and having 0.01-0.4dl/g intrinsic viscosity measured in decalin at 135 deg.C without any observed signal based on two consecutive methylene chains between the adjacent two tertiary carbon atoms in the polymer backbone chain in a <13>C-NMR spectrum. |
