PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of the titled memory and to improve the environmental characteristic thereof by using electrochromism to record information. CONSTITUTION:The electrochromism is used to record the information with the optical memory consisting of a substrate 1, a color forming medium 2, a separator 3, a reflective film 4 and a protective film 5. The electrochromism is the phenomenon in which the transparent color forming medium 2 is colored when metal ions are implanted into said medium 2. Such electrochromism is utilized as follows: To write the information, the separator 3 is decomposed by application of heat thereto. The metal ions are then implanted into the medium 2 by the consequent contact of the metal ion source and the medium 2, by which an intercalation reaction with the medium is induced and the color is formed in the medium. Reading out of the information is executed by detecting the difference in the absorptivity or reflectivity of light by the presence or absence of the color formation by the electrochromism. The use of a white light source to read out the information is thereby permitted and the cost of the device is reduced. |
