The invention relates to a compensating jaw for clamping devices, in particular for vices, which permits compensation of unevennesses of the workpieces to be clamped. Whereas this set object can be achieved only with difficulty using known clamping devices, if no compensating pieces are available, the invention solves this problem by equipping the clamping plungers inside the clamping jaw with pistons which are sealingly guided in cylinders, for which a communicating hydraulic system exists. The latter can be closed off to the outside, so that the system operates free from external pressure sources, the workpiece being supported by each clamping plunger with the same force, resulting from the spring loading of the cylinders owing to the interconnection of the cylinder cavities.
