Amethod for processing silver halide colour photographic material contg. at least one silver halide emsulsion layer contg. silver bromoiodide with an iodide content of 0.5% molar or more; comprises development of the exposed material with a developer contg. 3-methyl- 4-amino-N-ethyl -N-(2-hydroxyethyl) aniline (I) for a development time not exceeding 180 secs. The photosensitive emulsion layer is exposed using a 4800 K colour filter. Development for up to 150 secs. gives a maximum magenta density of at least 2.0. Development for 195 secs. at 38 deg.C gives a magenta density below 2. More specifically, the developer contains (I) and also a compound selected from (II), (III), (IV); where each Y is the same or different O or S; m and n are 0-500; R is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; Z is N or P; X is an anion; each A is H, alkyl or halogen; Q is H or alkyl; A' is A or NQ2; or (V) (where Ya is H, OH or -NR2R3; R0, R1, R2, R3, R4 are 1-3C (opt. substd.) alkyl, acetyl, carbamoyl, or amino; X1 is O, S or -NR5; R5 is 1-3C (opt. substd.) alkyl; x, m and n are 0, 1, 2 or 3; or 5 other compound types incl. N-contg. heterocyclic derivs. |
