Safety and signalling device for movable lorry tailgates. The invention relates to a device making it possible to signal the presence of a moving tailgate, to absorb an impact in the case of a rear collision and to hold the rolling loads carried by the tailgate. This device is made up of a system of articulated arms 1, 2 moved by a spring 7 and causing the movement of a bar 8 and a strip 9 parallel to a fitting 11 fixed to the tailgate 6. This fitting 11 contains a winder from which a screen 10A unwinds as a function of the pull on the bar 8. The bar/strip/screen assembly returns automatically into the fitting to allow the tailgate to be used. The invention is intended to satisfy the "highway code" and work regulations as well as the AFNOR standards for the case of using lifting tailgates on the public highway. <IMAGE>
