A frequency discriminator is created, preferably for automatic measuring range switching in frequency measuring instruments or for automatically changing the interpolation factor in interpolation devices. A first flip flop (1), a charge voltage generator (2), a resistor (3), a trigger (4) and a second flip flop (7) are connected in series. The output voltage UA is fed back either to a controllable charge voltage generator (2'), a controllable resistor (3') or a controllable capacitor (6') as a result of which a switching difference (hysteresis) is produced which has the effect that unambiguous information on a frequency transgression is always formed even in the region of frequency equality. <IMAGE>
