In a steam generator, in particular a once-through steam generator, with a feedwater pump, with an economiser, with a catalyst bed arranged on the flue gas side for reducing nitrogen oxides, and with a vaporiser downstream of the economiser, with a superheater, with a three-way control valve which is located in a feedwater line and is activated by the flue gas temperature upstream of the catalyst bed and from which a branch line leads to the vaporiser, with at least one sediment bowl and with at least one control valve, it is provided according to the invention that, between the economiser (4) and the vaporiser (2), a return line (25) fitted with a control valve (23) branches off to the sediment bowl (15) which is arranged between the vaporiser (2) and the superheater (3) and from which a circulation line (19) fitted with a circulation pump (20) and a circulation control valve (21) leads into the feedwater line (18) located between the three-way control valve (9) and the economiser (4). <IMAGE>
