The invention relates to a means for stabilising ladders which comprises in each case one pin which, at the lower ends of the strings of the ladder, is fitted releasably on said strings by means of the clamping device. The intention is that said stabilising means can be produced from a small number of individual parts and can thus be cost-effective and ensures, in all conditions, that the ladder stands in a stable manner. The stabilising means is provided with a clamping device which comprises an L-shaped bracket (6) and a threaded screw (7) which is bent off at an angle and provided with a head (8). In one leg (13) of the bracket (6), a bore (12) is formed in the screw shank and, in the other leg (10), a slot (17), open on the end side, is formed in the longitudinal direction of the leg (10) in accordance with the screw diameter. A nut (14) is screwed onto that end of the screw (7) which projects through the bore (12) in the leg, the pin (16) being fastened on the outer side of the bracket (6). <IMAGE>
