PURPOSE:To enable a cassette ribbon to be used for a longer period of time while maintaining a conventional length of the ribbon, by enlarging the width of a printing ribbon to enlarge the area of the ribbon, and reciprocally using the ribbon for printing through multiple zones of the ribbon. CONSTITUTION:When printing through the first zone of a printing ribbon is finished, both rotary shafts A, B (4) are simultaneously lifted up by a one-zone amount, whereby a cassette 3 and the printing ribbon 1 fitted to the shafts are also lifted up by a one- zone amount, and the second zone is raised to a printing position. Simultaneously, motor drive for the rotary shaft 4 is switched over from the shaft A to the shaft B, and the ribbon 1 is taken up rightward by the rotary shaft B (4) connected to a motor while the second zone of the ribbon 1 is struck by a head 2 according to key inputs to print on a paper. Thus, when the printing through each of the zones of the ribbon 1 is finished, the rotary shafts A, B (4) are alternatively connected to the motor automatically, and the rotary shafts 4 are simultaneously lifted up by the one-zone amount at a time so that the next zone of the ribbon 1 can be used for printing by the head 2. Accordingly, the ribbon 1 can be used for printing through multiple zones of the ribbon, and printing can be performed for a long period of time by using one ribbon 1. |
