The subject of the invention relates to methods and devices for keeping a filiform object tensioned while it is being wound on a drum and while it is being wound off. A device according to the invention keeps a filiform object 1, for example a cable which is wound on a drum 2 or which is wound off from the latter, constantly tensioned. This device 3 comprises a bistable tilting support 5 which carries a braking pulley 4b which interacts with a loose counter-roller 6b and a traction pulley which interacts with a loose counter-roller 6a. The support 5 is mounted in a pivoting manner about a shaft 10 of axis A. The pulleys 4a, 4b are driven rotationally by the shaft of a drum 2. One application is the construction of winches for winding cables. <IMAGE>
