A drive for vehicles, especially for agricultural tractors, is described, which comprises an internal combustion engine 1, a stepless torque converter 5 with a first and a second adjustment stage, a reversing gearbox 4 with assigned drive and shift clutches 3 and an auxiliary range transmission 6. In order to make shifting of the auxiliary range transmission 6 easier and to obtain as few tooth engagements as possible, the starting and drive clutch 3 is arranged independently of the reversing gearbox 4 on the input side of the latter and both are arranged on the input side of the stepless torque converter, the reversing gearbox, in a known way having a forwards stage 4a and a reverse stage 4b, which can be alternatively selected and for the first adjustment stage are geared in such a way that the output speed of the reversing gearbox 4 is equal to the rated speed of the torque converter 5 at the rated speed of the internal combustion engine 1.
