PURPOSE:To improve the stability of a liquid developer with age and the safety thereof by subjecting a silver halide photosensitive material formed by having a photosensitive silver halide, 2-equiv. coupler and basic metal compd. hardly soluble in water on a base to a developing process by using a specific processing soln. CONSTITUTION:The basic metal compd. hardly soluble in water is incorporated into the silver halide photosensitive material and a compd. which can make a complex forming reaction with metal ions constituting the basic metal compd. hardly soluble in water is incorporated into the processing soln. The base is generated in the film of the photosensitive material by the complex forming reaction effected by said ions and compd. during the processing. The basic metal compd. hardly soluble in water has <=0.5 solubility 8in 20 deg.C water and is preferably expressed by TmX, where T denotes a transition metal, X denotes a carbonate ion, phosphate ion, silicate ion, etc., and m, n denote such integers at which respective valencies of T and X maintain the equil.
