The control takes place via a freely moving coupling pen (6) which can be placed on those elements of a viewing area (1) on which a control operation is to be carried out. For this purpose, the coupling pen has a transmitter, which can be switched as required, for electromagnetic radiation which is received by electrical conductors (2, 4) which are arranged under the viewing area, and is supplied to receiving and evaluation devices (3, 5, 7) in order to determine the respectively marked image location.
