The invention relates to a system for compilation of a diagnostic dictionary. This system comprises a means 1 for memory storage of design information; this information comprises information 100 on the connections between the blocks, information 200 on the connections between the components of each block and information 300 on the input/output structure; the system also comprises a means 2 for extracting a register block by searching upstream, a means 4 for extracting a block by searching upstream, and a selection means 6 for selecting the block extracted by the register block extraction means 2, as well as the block extracted by the block extraction means 4. The invention applies to automatic compilation of a diagnostic dictionary, avoiding errors in manual compilation. <IMAGE>
