PURPOSE:To stably obtain a good direct positive image high in maximum density and low in minimum density by executing surface development processing in the presence of a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:The surface development processing is carried out in the presence of the compound represented by formula I in which Z is NR<2>, O, S, or Se; R<1> is NR<3>R<4>, NHCOR<3>, or NHSO<2>R<3>; each of R<3> and R<4> is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; R<2> is H, alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, amino, COR<5>, or SO<2>R<5>; R<5> is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or NR<3>R<4>; and M is H, an alkali metal, or ammonium. |
