PURPOSE:To omit a date information insertion device, to simplify and scale down a constitution and to obtain an inexpensive video camera by confronting and arranging a slit where visual information such as a date can be stated in the front of an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:The slit 21 capable of stating visual information such as a date is confronted and arranged in the front of the image pickup element 1. It converts the date information stated in the slit 21 into an electrical signal together with ordinary optical information, and a 1st processor 2 converts the signal that the image pickup element 1 generates into a video signal. According to the magnetic recording format of a VTR, a 2nd processor 4 converts the video signal and magnetically records it on a magnetic tape.
