PURPOSE:To control the timing to open and close valves by providing a supporting plate swingable around a cam shaft with two(2) rocker arm shafts for driving suction and exhaust valves provided to a cylinder head and by swinging the supporting plate according to running conditions of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head 20 is provided with a cam shaft 7 whose cam 9 opens and closes suction and exhaust valves 2 and 4 through rocker arms 1 and 3. The shafts 5 and 6 of the rocker arms 1 and 3 are fixed to the supporting plate 8 supported swingably around the cam shaft 7, and actuators 10 and 11 are fixed to both sides of the supporting plate. A control device 23 controls hydraulic directional control valves 13 and 14 according to the engine speed detected by an engine speed sensor 22 and controls the slant of the plate 8 in relation to horizontality. The position of the cam sliding sections 1a and 3a of rocker arm end sections are relatively deviated due to the slant motion of the plate 8 in relation to the cam 9 for adjusting the timing to open and close the suction and exhaust valves 2 and 4.
