The present invention relates to a method for the production of picks. This method differs from the prior art in that molten metal and sintered carbide particles with a higher relative density than that of the metal, preferably tungsten carbide, are poured into a rotated mould with the negative shape of the head and, once a predetermined height has been reached, the supply of sintered carbide particles is stopped and the supply of metal is continued to produce a weldable zone. <IMAGE>
