PURPOSE:To prevent the picture deterioration due to color fade-out by stopping the occurrence of a signal for compensating color fade-out or blocking the propagation of said signal during an intermittent drive period that the drive and stop of a magnetic recording medium are alternately repeated. CONSTITUTION:During a still picture reproducing period being the period of stopping the drive of a tape, a track jump pulse TJP signal for compensating color fade-out and a signal delay amount switching signal DLC are inputted to a video signal processing circuit 109. Thus continuity in the circuit 109 is restored to prevent the occurrence of color fade-out. During the intermittent drive period that the drive and stop of the tape are alternately repeated, a reproduction signal is almost the same as in normal reproduction, and no discontinuity of a chiromance component occurs. Consequently, the occurrence or propagation of the signal for compensating color fade-out is blocked. In such a way, the continuity of the chrominance signal can be secured even in the middle of the intermittent drive and reproduction, and color fade-out never occurs, whereby a picture is not deteriorated.
