A lifting device comprising two piston cylinder mechanisms (1) is adapted to lift a first part (2) relative to a second part (3). The first part (2) is in releasable force transmitting engagement with the pistons (9) of the mechanisms. Arrangement (17) for restricting the expansion of the mechanisms act as tensile force transmitting between the first part (2) and the cylinders (15) of the mechanisms. The portions of the pistons (9) intended to be received in the cylinders have generally uniform cross sections. The tensile force transmitting arrangements (17) are adapted to allow disengagement of the first part (2) from the pistons (9) and such movement of the first part that the pistons get free to be drawn out of the cylinders. |
