An immersion tube for cyclone precipitator with helical cross-section and one or more helically extending inlet gaps achieves a high precipitation output with a low pressure loss. By designing the cross-section of the immersion tube entirely or partially in the form of an involute of a specific dimension, the device is made simple to manufacture. Furthermore, it is advantageous if the immersion tube is of cylindrical longitudinal section and has a length/diameter ratio which is greater than 3/14. It is also favourable if the immersion tube is designed in the shape of a truncated cone with a diameter ratio smaller than 4.
