PURPOSE:To obtains a magnetic recording medium having good running property, durability and stability and excellent magnetic characteristics and electromagnetic conversion characteristic by coating a magnetic coating compd. consisting of a specific binder and pulverized ferromagnetic powder on a nonmagnetic substrate and subjecting the coated film thereof to an ultra- smoothing treatment. CONSTITUTION:The binder of the magnetic recording medium provided with a magnetic layer formed by dispersing the pulverized ferromagnetic powder in the binder consists of a vinyl copolymer consisting of 70-90wt% vinyl chloride unit, 7-30wt% vinyl ester carboxylate, 0.05-5wt% amino modified vinyl unit and, if necessary, some ratios of other vinyl units and having 200-800 average degree of polymn, polyurethane resin and triisocyanate compd. The dispersibility in the stage as a coating compd. system is extremely improved and the flocculation of the ferromagnetic powder with lapse of time is obviated by using such binder. The adhesive power and various properties as a tape are thus improved.
