PURPOSE:To excellently ensure low temperature starting properties and control of opening, by a method wherein the automatic restoring opening of an idle control valve is varied by means of an ambient temperature, and a driving signal fed to the idle control valve according to the varying restoring opening is corrected. CONSTITUTION:An idle control valve 5, having a restoring spring 4 automatically restored to a given opening during non-driving, is located in an auxiliary air passage 3 bypasing an intake air throttle valve 2 in an internal combustion engine 1. A drive pulse signal for a duty ratio set according to the running state of an engine is fed from a duty ratio set means 6 to an idle control valve 5 to perform control of opening and closing. In the above device, a means 7 is provided for varying a given opening during restoration of the idle control valve 5 according to an ambient temperature. Further, a means 8 is provided for feeding a duty ratio to the idle control valve 5 through correction of the duty ratio according to the varying restoring opening of the idle control valve 5.
